What Can I Do With This Degree?

Once students have completed their associate degree program in health information management, they can go on to earn a bachelor’s degree in the field or they can choose to join one of the fastest growing career opportunities in the health services industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for health information technicians are expected to increase by 20 percent from 2008 to 2018, creating approximately 35,000 new jobs for this talented workforce. This increase is partially due to our burgeoning elderly population and the need for increased medical services. In order to become a health information technician, students should seek certification from the American Health Information Management Association, which should not be a problem based on the knowledge and skills the students will have gained from their associate’s degree program. DeVry University also allows credits from this associate degree program to apply to their bachelor’s degree program in Technical Management with a specialization in Health Information Management should students wish to continue studying at DeVry.
